The Groupe Mammalogique Breton has been working with a quarry company on the north coast of Brittany to create a winter hibernaculum for bats. A series of tunnels has been constructed to recreate the temperatures and humidity levels in natural roosts nearby. By increasing the availability of roost sites, especially those that can be used in winter, the bats will be protected against the loss of individual sites through development or accidental destruction of an established roost. The GMB project has been led by Thomas Dubos and Josselin Boireau. This interview about the hibernaculum by Beatrice Dopita, originally in French, was first published in the BCT Blog in April 2017.
